VETERANS Hub claimed their first win of the new South & West Dorset League Premier Division season with a 46-23 success over Coastal Cheese.

Veterans made a strong start with great interceptions to take an early lead but Coastal found their rhythm and drew level.

Good attacking from Veterans’ centre court players, in particular C Emma Bright and WA Caroline Goode, meant Veterans drew ahead.

Coastal making a few tactical changes but Poppy Andrews’ introduction for Veterans helped them draw ahead with her accurate shooting. Coastal’s GD Alex Cocker made some great interceptions but Veterans pulled away.

Veterans made a few errors throughout the third quarter and with terrific interceptions from Coastal’s WD Meadow Noble they added to their score. A low-scoring quarter saw both teams struggling to convert.

Coastal made more tactical changes going into the last quarter but Veterans were the first team to settle.

Top shooting from Coastal’s GA Laura Cox and great defence from Coastal’s defence of Alex Cocker and Meadow Noble kept them within half of Veterans’ score at the final whistle.

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 35

WJNC WILDCATS 54

WJNC Wildcats are still unbeaten in Division One following a handsome 54-35 win over Joe Newton Electrical.

After a strong start and great shooting from both teams, Wildcats began to pull away with a two-goal lead.

Wildcats continued to extend their advantage thanks to GS Niamh Seely although Joe Newton’s defence fought back hard.

Both teams made changes for this quarter, producing good interceptions and turnovers in a competitive spell with the scores rising on either side.

The final quarter was also a closely-contested game with the teams creating space down the court but Wildcats took the win.

DREAM DIGITAL 7

WJNC WAVES 22

WILDCATS’ clubmates WJNC Waves got off the mark in Division Two with a 22-7 triumph over Dream Digital.

After a steady start, silly mistakes were being made.

Waves worked well mid-court with clever interceptions by GA Willow Charlton and GD Becca Wood to bring the ball down to their shooting circle and they took a four-goal lead.

Both teams bounced back with renewed determination and Dream continued to persevere against Waves’ tactical defence with GK Mathilde Burdette preventing Dream’s goals from going in.

Dream’s GK Lucy Horton applied increased defensive pressure making it difficult for Waves’ GS Rubi Moss to enter the circle although when she was able to Moss made some amazing shots from the outer edge of the circle.

Waves’ defence continued to apply pressure to Dream’s attack making it difficult for them to score in this quarter.

Dream started the last quarter with effective play and this increased their score but Waves’ ability to pre-empt interceptions resulted in them taking the win.

FIRST FIT WINDOWS 45

WARMER HOME B 22

FIRST Fit Windows went top of the division with a 45-22 win over Warmer Home Improvements B.

Warmer’s GA Stacey Mollier held her space creating goalscoring opportunities but good interceptions from First Fit’s GD Becky Chance helped them build a lead.

First Fit held their ground and with a strong performance they increased their lead.

First Fit’s WA Lisa White made good space and availability on court and both teams had strong passes but First fit extended their lead with sharp shooting.

The third quarter saw strong defence from First Fit and a few misplaced passes from Warmer meant that First Fit added to their lead, while Warmer stayed consistent in trying to get the ball to their shooters.

Warmer’s determination did not reduce in the fourth quarter which started off quite slow before nice passes from First Fit into their shooters resulted in lovely goals.

Both teams continued to persevere but First Fit came home with the win.
