A Portland-based care provider has announced it has acquired several new care homes.

Agincare, which has its headquarters in Castletown, has added the care homes of Critchill Court, in Frome, and Sunnymeade, in Chard, from Somerset Care Limited.

Both Somerset care homes were at risk of closure before joining Agincare’s nationwide network of residential care and nursing homes.

Agincare operates 13 care homes across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset, as well as supported living, home, live-in, and extra care services.

The acquisitions of the two new homes follows the opening of Elizabeth Court supported living service, in Dorchester, Admiralty Care Home in Gillingham, Kent and four homes in London as part of Agincare's expanding portfolio during the past 12 months.

Laura Coupe, Managing Director for Agincare’s residential care and nursing homes said: “Agincare’s success is built on strong partnerships, and our positive track record over many years is evidence of the successful transfer and management of care homes and other community services from local authorities, charities, and other such organisations.

“We work collaboratively with partners and build a deep understanding of our local communities in order to deliver high quality, personalised care for everyone who needs it, regardless of whether they are supported by a local authority, NHS, or are self-funded.”

The Castletown-based company is a family-owned, independent care provider that was founded by Derek Luckhurst from a single care home, Agincourt, in Weymouth in 1986.

Since then it has grown to deliver a comprehensive range of high-quality, person-centred care and support services across the country.

The care provider is committed to maintaining its headquarters in Portland, supporting the local economy in south Dorset and in the areas where it operates nationwide, employing 4,000 people in over 90 locations.

Agincare chief executive Raina Summerson added: “Agincare’s continued success across the country enables us to continue to support and drive economic growth across Dorset through expansion of services and job creation in a diverse range of head office support roles. Our national and international work also enables us to showcase Dorset in many different ways.”
