A reminder has been issued to people who will be voting via post for the upcoming local elections.

Residents across Dorset will be heading to the ballot boxes on Thursday, May 2, but for those who will be submitting their votes via post, Dorset Council is reminding them not to bring them to the council offices.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "If your voting by post in the May elections, please use a Royal Mail letter box for posting your vote.

"Please don't hand them in to council offices who are unable to accept them. Reminder to also post them well ahead of election date on 2 May so your vote counts."

People who are registered to vote by post can't vote in person at a polling station and must vote using the postal vote that will be sent to the address they stated on their application form.

These forms are sent approximately 10 days before the polling day and must be received by no later than 10pm on election day.

If it's too late to post a completed postal vote, the completed pack, sealed in the return envelope, can be taken to the voters local polling station by 10pm.
